Miley Cyrus' second go-round hosting Saturday Night Live covered some predictable ground (the VMAs, twerking, her videos) but came out feeling like a win for Miley, who's shouldered probably more than her fair share of criticism for the past month. Here are some of the most memorable screen grabs from both sketch and musical performances.
1. Miley Meets Miley in the Cold Open
Vanessa Bayer's Miley impression is so popular she introduced Miley at the VMAs in character as Miley. In the cold open, she played a time-traveling younger version of the singer, warning herself not to do her VMAs routine as planned — because it leads to the apocalypse.
And why does Miley keep sticking her tongue out like that? "I'm havin' tiny strokes, yo!"
2. Miley's Monologue
With a quippy mix of self-deprecation and topical relevancy, Miley joked about her VMAs performance, saying the only people she really owed an apology are the ones who make the bottom halves of shirts.
She also said they'd be scrapping that "Wrecking Ball" sketch, leading to this Bobby Moynihan highlight.
3. Miley Cyrus as Scarlett Johansson
The first post-monologue sketch was a series of screen tests for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, leading to this shot of Miley as Scarlett and Taran Killam as Christoph Waltz.
4. Miley as a "Girlfriend"
Miley played along as an obnoxious BFF on the fake show "Girlfriends."
..Leading to this ALMOST twerk.
5. The GOP Version of "We Can't Stop"
Taran Killam played John Boehner and Miley played Michele Bachmann in a spoof of "We Can't Stop" called "We Did Stop (The Government)."
6. Miley as Hillary Clinton
Miley and Kenan Thompson played MTV versions of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in an MTV version of the duo's friendship.
...Leading to this shot.
7. Miley Does "Wrecking Ball"
And this is what she wore for the first performance of the night.
8. Miley as a Cheerleader
Miley donned her spirit skirt for this sketch where she played a head cheerleader who meets an alien who keeps abducting her fellow cheerleaders. He also steals the moon.
9. Morning with Miley!
Miley played one of three over-enthusiastic "Mornin' Miami" anchors who are incredibly disgruntled off camera. At this point you would be correct in assuming we've departed the topical section of the show.
10. The Second Musical Performance
For her second number, Miley did an acoustic version of "We Can't Stop." Those with keen eyes will notice both her performance outfits were see-through.
11. Making Out with the Teacher
Vanessa Bayer returned late in the show to play Miley's substitute poetry teacher, who Miley falls hard for.
12. The Fantasy Girl
And for the final sketch of the night, Miley played a geek's sexy fantasy come true.
So what did you think of Miley's second hosting stint on SNL?
