Demi Lovato opted not to throw a splashy Hollywood party to celebrate her 21st birthday this month, instead voyaging to Africa to work with Free the Children, an international human rights charity and youth movement that counts Nina Dobrev, Natalie Portman, and Mia Farrow among its celebrity ambassadors.
Demi, who earlier this year starred on an episode of The Price is Right to raise funds for the charity, tweeted a video of her birthday song, writing, "What an unreal birthday. Speechless."
She also tweeted a picture of herself cutting her birthday cake with the caption, "This trip has been such an amazing experience. Yesterday was the best birthday of my entire life!!!"
Demi also got a very special (and very public) birthday message from her rumored boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama.
