After barely surviving its first near disastrous season with the ditzy Paula Abdul and insufferable Nicole Scherzinger as judges / mentors the X Factor U.S. cleared house. Both were fired almost immediately after the series wrapped along with wooden host Steve Jones. Now things really seem to be moving in the right direction as their replacements, pop goddess Britney Spears and Disney princess Demi Lovato , have been officially announced. Britney, now 30 years old, has been back on a successful roll for the last few years after a series of public meltdowns and brings a ton of star power to the line-up while Demi is coming off a stint in rehab after having a semi-successful time in the Disney Machine but failing to elevate herself to the level of her contemporaries Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez . Still, she's a bubbly personality who will bring a sense of fun that the show very desperately needs
