The late royal's son Prince William -- a.k.a. The Duke of Cambridge -- has been named patron of St. Giles Trust's 50th Anniversary, St. James' Palace announced Tuesday. The 29-year-old first visited St. Giles Trust's headquarters in March 2009.
"We are honored and delighted that The Duke of Cambridge will be our Patron for our important 50th anniversary year," St. Giles Trust's chief executive Rob Owen tells Us Weekly in a statement. "By supporting us, he is leading by example in helping some of the most excluded, disadvantaged people in society who really need support."The UK charity provides practical support for ex-prisoners seeking housing and employment opportunities. "Although our work has evolved over the years, we remain an organization which works with people who have fallen through the gaps in the state's safety net," Owen explains. "We are very much looking forward to working with The Duke of Cambridge over the coming year and hope his patronage will help highlight this important issue."
William is currently patron or president of more than 20 charities and organizations, including Centrepoint and SkillForce.
