Closer to dawn than midnight, newlyweds the Duke andDuchess of Cambridge boogied down to the Beatles' "She Loves You" as friends joined them in a huge sing-along at the end of their special day. And then they had another send-off – in a mini Fiat car.
The couple took to the dance floor at a special disco inside Buckingham Palace in front of their nearest and dearest. The grand room had been transformed with a curtain draped down that reflected the strobe lights. Their final dance was to the Beatles classic.
"William and Kate were in the middle, giving it their all. It wasn't as if they were going to leave everyone to it. They stayed to the last minute," a guest tells PEOPLE. "Everyone was singing and dancing and enjoying themselves so much.
Then, everyone was asked to go out to the fine lawns behind the palace. There, a little Fiat, a classic Cinquecento model, had been decked out in finery. "It had balloons all over it and an open top," the guest says. "They squeezed into it, sat out on the roof, while one of the servants drove the car and drove off along the gravel paths. Then the fireworks went off. There were big ones, but it was only for two minutes."
The couple drove away, but didn't actually leave the premises.
Earlier, Prince Harry had played master of ceremonies at the reception. He introduced the bride's father, Michael Middleton, then the groom, who gave a speech, and Tom van Straubenzee and James Meade – William's friends, who toasted the couple together.
Finally, Harry gave his own best-man speech. "He is naturally funny, and it was a great, private gathering of friends," the guest says.
Dinner included salmon with crab and langoustine from Lyme Bay, with Meursault wine. Then Highland lamb with vegetables form Highgrove. The dessert was ice cream, sherry trifle and a chocolate dish.
The music started with Ellie Goulding, who sang a few tracks, followed by the disco.
The couple were clearly thrilled. "They were in the full party spirit, as though they had done the pageantry and the formal bit," says the guest. "They really went for it and let their hair down."
It all might have been just too perfect otherwise.
Over the course of William andCatherine's fairy-tale wedding day, everything seemed to go exactly as planned, without so much as a stumble.
But one horse and rider in the grand procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace took one for the team.
The horse, a member of the Household Cavalry, and the trooper took a spill after the animal was spooked en route to the first reception of the day. Both were uninjured.
"It was just a complete accident," a source tells PEOPLE. "They were trotting 'round a corner and because they were on the outside, his horse had to be moving at a fast pace and this led to it losing its footing as it went 'round the corner."
Luckily there are no hard feelings toward the four-legged member of the cavalry who, along with the trooper, will resume their duties in due course.
William and Kate woke up as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Saturday morning – and headed off for a little privacy.
After spending the first night of their married life at Buckingham Palace following an evening of partying, the newlyweds were seen strolling the Palace grounds hand in hand, thanking staff before they were whisked away by helicopter.
And while she may be royalty now, the Duchess made a very down-to-earth footwear decision: She wore the same wedges Saturday morning as she did for her wedding rehearsal just a few days before.
Only 24 hours earlier, the couple had been been making separate departures, en route to Westminster Abbey for their wedding.
But what of their top-secret honyemoon?
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen not to depart for a honeymoon immediately," the Palace said in a press release.
"Instead, after spending the weekend privately in the United Kingdom, The Duke will return to work as a Search and Rescue pilot next week. The locations of both their private weekend and their future honeymoon, which will be overseas, will not be disclosed in advance."
As for the father of the groom, Prince Charles, he was seen Saturday morning taking the Aston Martin – one of the big stars of yesterday's show – for a morning drive.
A source tells PEOPLE, "Charles pulled out of Clarence House around 10 a.m. in his Aston Martin and zipped over to Buckingham palace to see the couple off. He looked very pleased."
Like her sisterDuchess Catherine, who donned a second wedding dress on Friday evening after theroyal wedding, Pippa Middleton also changed into another gown for the post-reception party.
While Pippa, who served as maid of honor, also wore a dress by Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burtonto the ceremony, she chose designer Alice Temperley to make a custom look for the evening's festivities.
Pippa wore an emerald green Temperley London gown to the dinner dance hosted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
"I was honored that Ms. Pippa Middleton asked me to design her dress for the Royal Wedding evening reception," Temperley said Friday. "Pippa was a delight to work with and knows exactly what she likes. She loved the green color, which looks great on her skin tone. The dress was designed especially for her with a fantastic open back and a full skirt for dancing in."
She completed the look by complimenting the gown with silver Aruna Sethheels.
Aside from Kate Middleton, who was photographed in a Temperley London dress last year, young celebs from Isla Fisher to Emma Roberts have recently been spotted in the designer's party-perfect frocks.
Pippa's pick is especially fitting since the Queen royally appointed the designer. Temperley was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to the fashion industry in March 2011.
Of course, there is a main image of the newlyweds. But even more fun, is an adorable one with the children of the bridal party including: The Hon. Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Miss Eliza Lopes, Miss Grace van Cutsem, Lady Louise Windsor, Master Tom Pettifer, Master William Lowther-Pinkerton.
The now-merged family is featured in entirety in the final shot, with everyone from Queen Elizabeth II to Carole Middleton.

So very regal!
The Duchess of Cambridge's regalAlexander McQueen wedding gown was, well, fit for a princess, but her second dress of the day – also a McQueen creation – was definitely meant for a party.
After a long day that started with hair and makeup at 6:30 a.m., wound into the hour-long ceremony and procession, featuredtwo very public kissesand culminated with aBuckingham Palace reception for 650 hosted by the Queen, Kate found time to change before heading off to the second post-wedding bash of the day.
Following a brief rest at Prince Charles's home, Kate slipped into another dress designed by McQueen creative director Sarah Burton: a white satin strapless evening gown with a circle skirt and diamante detailing around the waist. She topped the look with a simple white shrug, warming her up in the breezy 60-degree weather.
Not to be outdone, The Duke of Cambridge pulled a quick change, too: William set aside his scarlet colonel uniform in favor of a dapper black tuxedo. Prince Charles, his wife Camilla Parker Bowles and Kate's sister Pippa all stepped out in colorful new outfits, too.
After regrouping, William and Kate returned to Buckingham Palace, where Prince Charles is throwing the couple – and 300 guests – a festive dinner dance. After spending their first night as newlyweds in the stately palace, they'll likely jet off on their honeymoon on Saturday.
